Maintenance: Hypervisors / CVE-2026-53359 Mitigation

Following our previous maintenance announcement regarding Januscape / CVE-2026-53359 (https://status.nws.netways.de/incidents/52), we have to announce a follow-up maintenance window at short notice.

During the planned maintenance window on 08.07.2026, we were not able to migrate all virtual machines as expected. We encountered issues during the process which had to be analyzed and fixed before continuing.

During this follow-up maintenance, we will continue processing the remaining hypervisors one after another and restart or migrate the remaining affected virtual machines. Each virtual machine is expected to be restarted or migrated only once.

The expected downtime per virtual machine is approximately two minutes.

This mitigation is independent of Ubuntu kernel updates and remains part of our ongoing mitigation for Januscape / CVE-2026-53359. Additional maintenance windows may become necessary, but cannot be ruled out at this time.

Please note that virtual machines using encrypted volumes may require manual key entry after a restart. If this applies to your systems, please ensure that the required access and keys are available during the maintenance window.
